Position Title: Youth and Young Adult Minister
FLSA Classification: Full-Time

Position Summary:
As the Youth and Young Adult Minister, you’ll serve as a vital support to the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Garden ministry focusing on pastoral care tailored specifically for children, teens, young adults, and those engaged in youth and young adult ministries. Embodying the role of Assistant Pastor, you’ll exemplify the values of Jesus Christ through your daily actions and interactions. Your primary objective will be to guide and mentor youth and young adults, nurturing their journey toward a deeper relationship with Christ. This entails overseeing a dynamic youth and young adult ministry department with a focus on community outreach. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and planning skills are essential, along with a collaborative approach to teamwork.

As the Youth and Young Adult Minister, you must possess a proven track record of service, the ability to empower others and collaboration with fellow staff members. You should excel in recruiting and coordinating volunteers for youth and young adult ministry initiatives. Additionally, your decision-making should be grounded in theological principles, and you should be adept at delegating responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
All responsibilities and duties of the Youth and Young Adult Minister are to be undertaken in collaboration with the Senior Pastor and Executive Director. The primary focus of the Youth and Young Adult Minister is to oversee the holistic development of the youth and young adults within First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, encompassing their spiritual, educational, emotional, mental, and physical growth.

  • Evaluate the current structure of the Youth and Young Adult Ministry to identify needs and formulate a strategic plan for organizing, developing, and implementing an adaptable infrastructure to meet both present requirements and future societal shifts.
  • Recruit and coordinate Youth and Young Adult Servant Leaders by discerning their gifts, talents, and aspirations.
  • Collaborate with Ministers and Servant Leaders to recruit volunteers for Sunday School, Bible Study, and Children’s Church, ensuring age-appropriate curriculum and class structuring.
  • Work with Ministers and Servant Leaders to establish and enforce a secure environment for youth activities.
  • Engage with unsaved youth outside of regular church events and organize outreach initiatives.
  • Attend various youth functions in the community and plan outreach events to encourage participation of unsaved friends.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with community leaders and make regular visits to youth at their schools.
  • Offer counseling and mentorship as needed to support the youth and young adults.
  • Preach on designated Youth and Young Adult Sundays and as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
  • Foster individual and group discipleship through deliberate one-on-one interactions and organized activities.
  • Collaborate with Ministers and other Ministries to involve youth and young adults in local evangelistic outreach and ministry involvement.
  • Train youth to serve in various events and ministries within the church.
  • Create opportunities for youth to engage in Christian service and missions, such as volunteering at local organizations.
  • Encourage exploration of Christian vocational ministries and provide guidance accordingly.
  • Develop a worship service tailored to the specific needs of youth and young adults, aiming to facilitate full participation every Sunday.
  • Promote involvement in church governance by establishing youth/young adult trustees and expanding Junior and Youth Usher Ministries to develop a Young Adult Usher Ministry.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and enrollment in a Master of Divinity program from an accredited Seminary or Divinity School.
  • Licensed Minister, Ordained, or pursuing Ordination.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Youth Ministry.
  • Demonstrated vocational calling to Youth and Young Adult Ministry within a local Church context.
  • Proficiency in childhood/adolescent development and psychology, backed by training, education, and practical knowledge.
  • Strong leadership abilities and organizational prowess.
  • Experience in teaching and developing lesson plans.
  • Demonstrated eagerness for ongoing learning.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.

Working Conditions: The schedule includes Sundays and onsite hours during the week. Hours will vary based on programs and events. Incumbent has the ability to flex hours with approval from the Executive Director within the 40-hour work week; 10% travel (domestic and international).
