Ministry Spotlight

The Sunday School Ministry's major objective is discipleship. Classes are provided on Sunday mornings from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for Pre-K through high school. Students are taught in class discussions, role playing, songs and missions outreach to Elijah's Promise Soup Kitchen, the McCarrick Nursing Home, Ronald McDonald House and Feed the Children Warehouse. This year, the Sunday School Ministry will be making a special emphasis on students learning and understanding some of the great hymns of the church. The next session begins the third Sunday in September. For more information about this ministry, e-mail Deacon Reginald Johnson at reginal.johnson@comcast.net.

Health

Make your own fruit pops

Hot summer months can leave you craving a cool refreshing treat.

Instead of grabbing a high-calorie ice-cream bar, try a healthy frozen fruit pop. Place berries, such as blueberries, raspberries and chopped strawberries, in a small cup. Add cranberry or pineapple juice to fill about 2/3 of the cup. Add a wooden popsicle stick and freeze.

After freezing, run warm water over the cup to release the fruit pop and enjoy.

C. G. Wooding Ministry Blood Pressure Screening offered every Sunday

The C.G. Wooding Ministry will be taking blood pressure screenings every Sunday. Please join them in the First Aid Room after the 7, 9 and 11 a.m. services.

Walking Tips: Establish Your Baseline Steps

To begin, determine the average number of steps you take each day. Put your pedometer on first thing in the morning and wear it the rest of the day. Use it to count the number of steps you take each day for three days. Add your total number of steps for each of the three days together and divide that total number by three. This gives you an average from which to start setting short- and long-term goals.

Pastoral Care

Bereavement information is now on the web

Information on what to do when a loved one dies is now on the FBC website at http://fbcsomerset.com.

Hope and Healing

Should you take a counteroffer?

As the economy gets better, studies show that many employees will leave when they get a better job opportunity. Not wanting to lose them, current employers may make counteroffers.

Deciding to accept or reject a counteroffer involves asking oneself some key questions. Some questions might be "Why am I hearing a counteroffer now?" or "Which place best suits my long-term career goals?"

To make the process easier, think about the possibility of a counteroffer before stepping foot in your boss’ office.
