Sunday Morning

Women's Day: Women's Day is the culmination of a month-long of activities for the women of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens and the community. The theme of the month is "Sisters Breaking Down the Walls" and the focus has been on prayer. Fasting and praying was done throughout the month. A Prayer Wall was introduced, which has the same mission as the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem. There were guest speakers, seminars and Joy Night, which was a talent showcase.

Ministry Spotlight

The Missionary Ministry is a group of 42 evangelists who share God's word with the community through worship, song and testimonies. They volunteer at Elijah's Promise soup kitchen twice a month; fellowship with the Good News Home for Women on a quarterly basis; visit the Willowcreek Nursing Home twice a month and several other nursing homes on a monthly basis. You do not have to be a missionary to join the Missionary Ministry. The ministry meets at 10 a.m. on the last Saturday before the first Sunday of every month. If you're interested in joining this ministry, please e-mail Anthony Turner at aturner38@optimum.net.

Scripture

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful.

I Peter 3:3-5 (NIV)

Wear red and/or white

Rev. Millicent Allen Wess will be the guest speaker at the 9 and 11 a.m. services Sunday.

While in seminary, Wess served as a chaplain intern at Womanspace, a shelter for battered and abused women and as an intern at First Baptist Church, where she worked for Harvest of Hope Family Services Network, Inc.

Rev. Wess graduated from seminary in May 2001 with a Master of Divinity. She was licensed to preach the next month and was ordained through the American Baptist Churches USA in November 2003.

Airline miles bank created

First Baptist Church is planning three more trips this year - to Ghana and twice to Haiti - but church leaders need your help getting there.

Many of you have unused airline miles or points from credit cards that can be redeemed for miles. First Baptist is starting an airline mileage bank for the trips.

Pastor Soaries is seeking mileage donations and requesting you use your points to purchase tickets for First Baptist.

The trip to Ghana is planned for August. We will continue to build upon our existing relationship with King Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin. Two trips are planned for Haiti. The first, of which the date hasn't been set, will be a follow-up to our trip in the Spring, and the second will be in December, when First Baptist's college students are expected to do missions work there.

Pastor Soaries hopes you are willing to help First Baptist make an impact in two areas of the world in need. If you have miles to donate or are willing to purchase a ticket for the church, please contact Linda Bennett at lbennett@fbcsomerset.com.

Health

Sweet potatoes reduce stress levels

Sweet potatoes can be particularly stress-reducing because they can satisfy the urge you get for carbohydrates and sweets when you are under a great deal of stress. They are packed full of beta-carotene and other vitamins, and the fiber helps your body process the carbohydrates in a slow and steady manner.

C. G. Wooding Ministry Blood Pressure Screening offered every Sunday

The C.G. Wooding Ministry will be taking blood pressure screenings every Sunday. Please join them in the First Aid Room after the 7, 9 and 11 a.m. services.

Avoid back pain

To avoid back pain, maintain good posture, sit and stand well-balanced. Also avoid twisting and bending at the same time and perform back stretching exercises regularly.
