The CJCDC has saved nearly 200 families from foreclosure this year

In the last six months, 325 families in danger of losing their homes have walked through the doors of the Housing Assistance Recovery Program.

And because of the skilled housing counselors, 60 percent or 195 of those families’ homes were saved.

But Jesse Crawford, director of the Housing Assistance and Recovery Program (HARP), which is a state-certified housing counseling program that supports homeowners and tenants threatened by foreclosure, said the numbers would be higher if families wouldn’t wait until the last minute to get help.

“Eight perfect of folks come in when they’re already in foreclosure and some come in after the sheriff has already scheduled the sale, so we do what we can to stop the sale,” he said.

Crawford said the right time to contact HARP, which is an affiliate of the Central Jersey Community Development Corporation (CJCDC), is before a homeowner gets behind on his or her payments.

5th Anniversary of dfree celebrated

Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr., the dfree Ministry and members and friends celebrated the 5th Anniversary of dfree Sunday. The strategy was initially created to help First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens’ members get out of debt, so they could help the church get out of debt, Soaries said.

But five years later, the mission has slightly changed.

In addition to having his members become debt free, Pastor Soaries is now focused on getting the strategy into churches across America.

“I made a promise to God that by the end of 2012, I will get 900 churches to say ‘I’m a dfree church,’” Soaries said Sunday at the dfree reception after the 11 a.m. service.

Member Jackee Jackson to meet President Obama

Jackee Jackson has been invited to the White House to meet with President Barack Obama July 26 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

The President invited a small group of people with disabilities to join him. Jackson will represent the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (MS) and all people with disabilities.

“It’s amazing! Meeting President Obama is one of my ultimate goals. It’s exciting and it’s historical because it’s the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act,," Jackson said yesterday.

"If I have an opportunity to speak to the President, I plan to talk about accessibility issues and making sure places are fully accessible. I want people to recognize the law," she said. “I really want to stress the fact and encourage people to become their own self advocate. Make yourself heard on what’s important to you and the community. Surround yourself with people that can also be their own advocate.”

Airline miles bank created

First Baptist Church is planning three more trips this year - to Ghana and twice to Haiti - but church leaders need your help getting there.

Many of you have unused airline miles or points from credit cards that can be redeemed for miles. First Baptist is starting an airline mileage bank for the trips.

Pastor Soaries is seeking mileage donations and requesting you use your points to purchase tickets for First Baptist.

The trip to Ghana is planned for August. We will continue to build upon our existing relationship with King Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin. Two trips are planned for Haiti. The first, of which the date hasn't been set, will be a follow-up to our trip in the Spring, and the second will be in December, when First Baptist's college students are expected to do missions work there.

Pastor Soaries hopes you are willing to help First Baptist make an impact in two areas of the world in need. If you have miles to donate or are willing to purchase a ticket for the church, please contact Linda Bennett at lbennett@fbcsomerset.com.

Health

Breakfast is important

Skipping breakfast may be tempting, whether you’re trying save calories or just too busy dashing out the door to stop for a bowl of cereal. But that, nutritionists agree, is a mistake. Eating breakfast everyday jump-starts your metabolism, makes you feel upbeat, controls cravings all day and prevents weight gain.

C. G. Wooding Ministry Blood Pressure Screening offered every Sunday

The C.G. Wooding Ministry will be taking blood pressure screenings every Sunday. Please join them in the First Aid Room after the 7, 9 and 11 a.m. services.

Hope and HealingWould you sacrifice pay for passion?

Despite the ever-changing conditions of the global economy, many employees are willing to sacrifice both pay and prestige in order to attain more meaningful positions, as they hope to use their talents and skill sets in a constructive manner -- by positively impacting the world and those who live within it. With an employees’ passion for their job, employees aspire to fulfill psychological needs and career goals, employees influence a greater cause and they maintain the virtue of patience.

Without a doubt, highly-satisfied top talent will not only continue to change the world in which they live, but they will also motivate others to do the same. As employees' psychological needs and career goals are met, they will be able to perform to the best of their abilities. In doing so, they will not only influence their fellow colleagues, but they will also create a lasting impression that will leave an indelible imprint on the lives of other people.
