Let Us Adore Him

Worship is our foremost value. Jesus says in John 4:24, "God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." For us to worship God in spirit and in truth we must make sure we obey all of His commandments as given by Him in the Bible on how He is to be worshipped.

Worship is the central act of the people of God. And so it is at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, where the written word of God and the preached word of God are central to worship services. The reading of the scriptures and the presentation of the spoken work are poignantly complemented by prayers and sacred music, which are integral to the communal praise of Jesus Christ.

At First Baptist, prayer, scripture reading, as well as music, are integral parts of each worship service. In prayer, we offer thanksgiving and ask for intercession; and our musicians offer praise as noted in Psalm 98:4-5, which says, "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Sing unto the Lord with the harp, and the voice of a psalm." Scripture lessons are necessary for focusing our attention to and developing a hunger for the message of God.

Regular public worship services at First Baptist Church are held on Sunday and Wednesday. The purpose of our worship is to express gratitude to God and to acknowledge that we know God as the source of our joy. Each Sunday, we call together three worship services in order to accommodate our large membership. We are committed to a quality experience for each service and place premium on effective, stimulating, informed, encouraging preaching and good music that edifies God. When we worship, God gets the praise and we enjoy the inspiration, motivation and the blessings.

New Members Process

During the Invitation to Discipleship, you are invited to become a member of our church and a deacon or deaconess will introduce you to the church body. After service is over, you will meet with the deacons to complete personal information forms, receive information regarding New Members' Orientation classes and get a Designated Friend assignment.

Below are the ways in which you may become a member of First Baptist Church and the steps that should be followed after announcing your faith:

  1. Accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.
  2. Announce your faith in one of the four categories:
    • Candidate for Baptism
    • Christian Experience (already baptized by immersion)
    • Membership Restoration
    • Watchcare (non-voting member)
  3. Complete Four New Members' Orientation Classes
  4. Receive the ordinance of baptism by immersion, if appropriate
  5. Receive the Right Hand of Fellowship

The Designated Friend (DF) is a church member who has volunteered to assist you through the New Member Process and help you become acclimated to First Baptist Church. The DF is there to remind you of class schedules, answer questions regarding the church and invite you to the New Members' Service for Baptism and The Right Hand of Fellowship.

The four mandatory New Members' Orientation Classes must be completed in consecutive order and must be completed by the 3rd Sunday of the month (no exceptions) in order for you to be Baptized and/or receive The Right Hand of Fellowship at the New Members' Service on the 4th Saturday of the month.

New Members' Orientation classes may be completed online for prospective new members under specific circumstances, e.g., works out-of-town, or scheduling conflict, however, approval is required. New Member online classes, like classes completed in the classroom, must be taken in consecutive order and must be completed by the 3rd Saturday of the month to receive The Right Hand of Fellowship at the New Member Service on the 4th Saturday of the month.

Church Covenant

Leader: What experience defines our spiritual fellowship and covenant relationship?
Congregation: Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus as our Savior and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

Leader: What is the bond of our union?
Congregation: By Grace through faith, we are saved. We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. We are God's own special people, who proclaim the praises of God, Who calls us from darkness into light.

Leader: What are our privileges and duties in this Church?
Congregation: We affirm our commitment to Worship, Discipleship, Stewardship, Fellowship, and Caring for one another.

Leader: What vows do we make as stewards of God's gifts of money, time, and talent?
Congregation: To contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

Leader: What tasks do we assume as the people of God?
Congregation: To go and to teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: Teaching them to observe all that Christ commands.

Leader: To what lifestyle and conversation are we pledged?
Congregation: To do goodness, love mercy, and walk humbly before our God. To love the Lord God with all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Leader: What should we do if we leave this community?
Congregation: If we leave this Church we will as soon as possible, unite with a church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant.

Leader: What benediction concludes our covenant?
Congregation: May the God of peace who brought again from the dead, the great shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant even our Lord Jesus, make us perfect in every good thing to do God's will, working in us that which is well pleasing in God's sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
