Teresa
Silva interviews Marge Hutton
Senior Marge Hutton tried out her new e-mail for the first time
in early September by writing to Teresa Silva. Ms. Silva was working
with Ms. Hutton to get her feedback on the seniors computer class
she had just completed. Ms. Hutton was very enthusiastic about the
instruction by Mr. Rodnie Glover on using the World Wide Web.
In the email to Teresa, Ms Hutton shared that following surgery
in early 1997, she had been experiencing a slight depression and
believes the Seniors Ministry programs, particularly the Intro to
Computers and the Internet Class, have been the catalyst in relieving
her depressed state. Ms Hutton says, "I truly appreciate and
enjoy" the Seniors Minstry. Ms. Hutton shared that her initial
encounter with learning the computer was mostly pleasant experiences,
though there were moments of frustration. She shared that "I
was especially frustrated when I discovered that I couldn't use
my own name as my personal e-address. It seems that there are quite
a few Marjories and Margies out there in cyberspace."
In response to the questions regarding having family in New Jersey
and place of birth, Ms. Hutton replied that she "has two adult
daughters; one who lives in Washington Crossing, PA and the other
in West Orange. "I also have two grown sons living in Marina
del Rey, CA and Reno, NV," continued Ms. Hutton. Ms. Hutton
believes all her children to be very nice hard-working people, even
though various circumstances and family situations found she and
them to be disconnected and at times even estranged. She says "
but of late, we all seem to be reconnecting both with the Almighty
and with each other." "It makes me one grateful old lady
who is starting to feel young again - at least at heart and in spirit."
The following are excerpts from Ms. Huttons personally documented
testimony regarding her experience in learning how to navigate the
computer and Internet technology as provided to Ms Silva.
- I was amazed at the present speed and the increasingly rapid
growth of the various computer technologies and their operations;
it was even more amazing to me that without leaving home, I could,
literally, within the blink of an eye, create
