Reflections of a journey that must not end on this day, October
14th, 2009 - we shall hit the pause button to be continued at a later date
as God
has already determined when it shall be. Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps
of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and He delighteth in his way.” I
am humbled that God has chosen me to be a part of this unique team of missionaries
as we celebrate, educate and serve our sisters and brothers here in this
region of Ghana. A piece of my heart will be left here as I slowly board
the jet for my comfortable life back in America.
Looking through the small window with tears in my eyes, thinking to myself, I could have done more, I could have given more, I could have shared more, maybe even left more here for my people that are in need of food, shelter and clothing. They work from sun-up until sundown; sleeping when they can and where they can.
My bags are over-stuffed with gifts for people who really don’t need them. Now I understand it. The real mission is to leave home with over-stuffed bags of clothing, shoes, books, Bibles, tracks and, yes, money too, to help celebrate, educate and serve those who are still in the struggle. Let us leave and hope here and return home with our bags empty and detailed reports on the condition of our families here, with the desire to answer their cry for help, and to be like the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37.
Remember, when we push the play button, the mission continues . . .
